Parmesan and thyme apple crumble with Maltese sausages
Ingredients
For the filling
- 5 apples, peeled, cored and chopped
- 25g butter substitute (Flora Buttery)
- 100ml Marsala wine
For the topping
- 225g plain flour (Lamb Brand)
- 225g butter substitute (Flora Buttery)
- 80g fresh breadcrumbs
- 100g grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp chopped fresh thyme
- Grated zest of ½ lemon
- You will also need 8 Maltese sausages
Method
Start by heating the 25g butter substitute in a large pan and cook the apple pieces with the lid on for 10 minutes, adding in the Marsala wine half way through the cooking time. Remove off the heat and transfer into an ovenproof dish. Next, quickly prepare the crumble topping by rubbing the flour and butter substitute together in a bowl till the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the fresh breadcrumbs, 75g grated Parmesan, chopped thyme and the lemon zest. Spoon the mixture over the cooked apples and finally sprinkle over the remaining 25g grated Parmesan. Bake in the oven at 200`c for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Meanwhile, grill or pan fry the Maltese sausages and serve with the delicous savoury apple and Parmesan crumbs.
