Maltese ‘ottini’ figure of 8 biscuits with sesame seeds

Ingredients
- 250g plain flour
- 250g self-raising flour
- ½ tsp baking powder
- 225g unsalted butter or margerine(STORK)
- 110g icing sugar
- Zest of an orange and lemon
- 1 tsp aniseed, toasted
- 1 egg, beaten
- Juice of an orange
- You will also need a little milk and 2 tbsp sesame seeds to decorate
Method
Place the flour, baking powder, butter and icing sugar in a large bowl adnd rub togehter using your fingertips till the mixture resembles bread crumbs. Stir in the citrus zest, toasted aniseed, egg and enough orange juice to form a firm pastry. Turn the pastry out onto a work surface and cut into small pieces the sice of a walnut. Roll each piece to the size of a pencil and form into the number 8. Press the ends together well and brush the top of the pastry shapes with a little milk. Place the sesame seeds into a plate, and dip the pastry(milk side down) into the sesame seeds to coat thetop evenly with the seeds. Place the pastry shapes onto baking sheets covered with non-stick paper and bake in the oven at 200`c for 20 minutes, or untill the pastry is golden brown. Remove the baking trays from the oven and allow the biscuits to cool down completely before serving.

Poġġi d-dqiq, it-trab tal-ħami, il-butir u z-zokkor fi skutella kbira u agħġinhom b’subgħajk sakemm it-taħlita tiġi qisha frak tal-ħobż. Imbagħad żid il-qoxra maħkuka tal-larinġa u l-lumija, il-ħlewwa, il-bajda u biżżejjed meraq tal-larinġ biex twebbes l-għaġina. Poġġi l-għaġina fuq il-bank u qattagħha f’biċċiet żgħar, id-daqs ta’ ġewża. Iftaħ kull biċċa f’romblu daqs ta’ lapes u biha fformaha n-numru 8. Agħfas it-trufijiet flimkien u idlek il-wiċċ ta’ kull ottu bi ftit ħalib. Poġġi l-ġunġlien fi platt u għaddas l-ottijiet wiċċhom ’l isfel fih. Poġġihom f’tilari miksijin bil-karta forn u aħmihom f’temperatura ta’ 200oC għal 20 minuta, jew sakemm tiħmar l-għaġina. Oħroġ it-tilari mill-forn u ħallihom jiksħu sew.
