Delicious Christmas trifle

Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 200g fruit cake, broken into pieces
  • 2 oranges, zested and thickly sliced
  • 2 tbsp dried cranberries
  • 2 tots Grand Marnier or brandy
  • 2 tbsp moscavado sugar
  • 250g mascarpone cheese
  • 300ml cold custard
  • 75g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 75g roasted hazelnuts, broken

Method

Start this recipe by mixing together the mascarpone cream, custard and zest of 2 oranges and place in the fridge. Next, heat a small pan and cook together the sugar, 1 tot alcohol, orange segments and dried cranberries for just 5 minutes. Remove off the heat and allow to cool down completely. Next you can put the trifles together. Take 4 jars and crumble the fruit cake into the bottom. Soak with the remaining alcohol then top with half of the orange custard mixture. Spoon over the cooked orange and cranberry mixture and top with half of the chopped chocolate and hazelnuts. Spoon over the remaining custard mixture and decorate with the remaining chopped chocolate and hazelnuts. Place into the fridge and chill for at least an hour. To serve, remove the trifles from the fridge and tie a nice thin Christmas ribbon around the jars.

Ingredients

  • 200g kejk tal-frott imfarrak f’biċċiet
  • 2 larinġiet u l-qoxra tagħhom imqattgħa f’biċċiet ħoxnin
  • 2 mgħaref cranberries niexfa
  • 2 grokkijiet Grand Marnier jew brandy
  • 2 mgħaref zokkor moscavado
  • 250g ġobon mascarpone
  • 300ml custard kiesħa
  • 75g ċikkulata skura mfarrka
  • 75g ġellewż inkaljat imfarrak

Method

Ħallat il-krema tal-mascarpone, il-custard u l-qoxra tal-larinġ u poġġi t-taħlita fil-fridge. Imbagħad, saħħan taġen żgħir u sajjar iz-zokkor, grokk alkoħol, il-flieli tal-larinġ u l-cranberries għal 5 minuti. Itfi n-nar u ħalli t-taħlita tiksaħ sew. Imbagħad tista’ tibda tgħaqqad it-trifle. Farrak il-kejk tal-frott fil-qiegħ ta’ 4 vażetti. Xarrbu bl-alkoħol li jkun fadallek, u itfa’ fuqu nofs it-taħlita tal-custard. Issa itfa’ t-taħlita tal-larinġ u l-cranberries u ferrex nofs il-biċċiet taċ-ċikkulata u l-ġellewż. Itfa’ l-kumplament tat-taħlita tal-custard u żejjen biċ-ċikkulata u l-ġellewż li jkun fadal. Itfagħhom fil-fridge biex jiksħu mill-inqas għal siegħa. Qabel isservi, ma’ kull vażett tista’ ddawwar żigarella sabiħa tal-Milied.
