Chocolate pecan pie

Ingredients

For the sweet pastry

You will also need

  • 250ml golden syrup
  • 80g caster sugar
  • 30g butter
  • 125g dark chocolate, melted (Novi)
  • 200g pecan nuts

Method

For the pastry, cream the butter and sugar together till light then stir in the egg, vanilla, zest and orange juice. Add in the flour and mix to a soft pastry. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to firm up.

Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to 5 mm thick circle big enough to cover the base and sides of a 22cm flan tin.  Cut of an excess and prepare the filling. Place the golden syrup, sugar and butter in a sauce pan and heat till the butter is melted. Allow to cool slightly before whisking in the eggs then the melted chocolate. Pour the mixture into the prepared crust and bake at 175°C for 30 -35 minutes or until firm.

Ingredients

Għall-għaġina ħelwa

  • 300g dqiq
  • 150g butir
  • 100g zokkor
  • bajda
  • essenza tal-vanilja
  • qoxra u meraq ta’ larinġa

Għall-mili

  • 3 bajdiet
  • 250ml golden syrup
  • 80g zokkor fin
  • 125g ċikkulata skura mdewba
  • 200g pecan nuts
  • 30g butir imdewweb

Method

Għall-għaġina, ħawwad fi krema l-butir u z-zokkor flimkien sakemm jiħfief, imbagħad ħawwad il-bajda, il-vanilja u l-qoxra u l-meraq tal-larinġa. Żid id-dqiq u ħawwad biex tifforma għaġina ratba. Itfa’ fil-friġġ għal 30 minuta biex tissoda. Irrombla l-għaġina fuq wiċċ bi ftit dqiq u fforma f’ċirku oħxon ta’ 5 mm kbir biżżejjed biex jgħatti l-bażi u l-ġnub ta’ landa tal-flan ta’ 22cm. Aqta’ ż-żejjed u ħejji l-mili. Poġġi l-golden syrup, iz-zokkor u l-butir ġo kazzola u saħħan sakemm il-butir idub. Ħallih jiksaħ ftit qabel ma żżid il-bajd u mbagħad iċ-ċikkulata mdewba. Ferra’ t-taħlita fil-qoxra tal-għaġina ppreparata u aħmi  f’temperatura ta’ 175°C  għal 30 -35 minuta jew sakemm tkun soda.
