Gingerbread Crib

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp golden syrup
  • 100g butter
  • 100g dark muscovado sugar
  • 300-350g plain flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • Extra flour for rolling
  • You will also need royal icing, a cake board and sweets to decorate

Method

To make the gingerbread, mix together the flour, ginger, soda and put aside. Next, melt together the butter, golden syrup and brown sugar together in a large saucepan. When ready, stir in the flour mixture and mix till you have a soft dough. To roll out the gingerbread you will need to place a sheet of baking paper onto your work surface. This will help to stop the gingerbread from sticking. Dust with a little flour and roll out the gingerbread in small pieces. Cut out the sides of your gingerbread using a cutter or template and place onto lined baking sheets. Bake in the oven at 160`c for 20 minutes, then carefully flip the gingerbread over and cook on the other side for another 5-10 minutes to dry out. When ready, remove from the oven and allow to cool down completely before putting the house together with royal icing and decorating.

  • 1 ½ kuċċarina ġinġer mitħun
  • 1 ½ kuċċarina bikarbonat tas-soda
  • Aktar dqiq biex tiftaħ l-għaġina
  • Ikollok bżonn ukoll royal icing, tilar tal-kejkijiet u ħelu biex iżżejjen

Method

Biex tagħmel il-gingerbread, ħallat flimkien id-dqiq, il-ġinġer u s-soda u warrab it-taħlita f’ġenb. Issa, f’kazzola kbira, dewweb flimkien il-butir, il-golden syrup u z-zokkor. Magħha żid it-taħlita tad-dqiq li tkun warrabt u ħawwad sakemm tifforma għaġina ratba. Qabel tiftaħ l-għaġina, poġġi folja kartaforn fuq il-wiċċ tal-bank/mejda ħalli t-taħlita ma teħilx. Ferrex ftit dqiq fuqha u iftaħ l-għaġina f’biċċiet żgħar. Uża l-forom jew sikkina biex taqta’ u poġġi l-biċċiet fuq tilari miksija bil-kartaforn. Aħmi fil-forn f’temperatura ta’ 160oC għal 20 minuta, imbagħad dawwarhom bil-galbu fuq in-naħa l-oħra u sajjarhom għal 5-10 minuti oħra biex jinħmew minn kullimkien. Meta jkunu lesti, oħroġhom mill-forn u ħallihom jiksħu sew qabel tgħaqqad il-presepju u żżejjen bil-ġelu.
