Apple mincemeat

Ingredients

  • 350g Bramley or Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 200g candied peel, chopped
  • 350g sultanas
  • 350g raisins
  • 350g currants
  • 350g vegetarian suet
  • 260g Demerara sugar
  • 2 heaped tsp mixed spice
  • 2 tsp vanilla essence
  • Zest and juice of 2 oranges
  • 150ml brandy

Method

This recipe is extremely easy to prepare and for best results make the mincemeat at least 1 month before you wish to use it. By this time all the ingredients will have infused together to give your mincemeat an amazing flavour. Before you prepare the mincemeat, it is extremely important that you sterilize your jars with boiling hot water to ensure that the mincemeat will not go mouldy. To make the mincemeat, all you need to do is mix all the ingredients together in a clean, large bowl. Pack the mixture into the prepared sterilized jars and seal immediately. Store the mincemeat in a cool dark place until you wish to use it. The mincemeat will keep for months if not opened, but once the seal is broken you need to use the mincemeat within 2 weeks.

  • 350g tuffieħ Bramley jew Granny Smith, mingħajr żerriegħa, imqaxxar u mqatta’
  • 200g konfettura, imqattgħa
  • 350g sultana
  • 350g żbib
  • 350g passolina
  • 350g vegetarian suet
  • 260g zokkor demerara
  • 2 kuċċarini mburġata ħwawar imħallta
  • 2 kuċċarini essenza tal-vanilla
  • Il-qoxra maħkuka u l-meraq ta’ 2 larinġiet
  • 150ml brandy

 

Method

Qabel tlesti t-taħlita, importanti li tisterilizza l-fliexken bil-misħun ħalli t-taħlita ma timmuffax. Ħallat l-ingredjenti kollha flimkien fi skutella nadifa. Poġġi t-taħlita fil-fliexken u ssiġġillahom. Aħżinhom f’post frisk u mudlam, sakemm tkun se tużahom. Jekk ma tiftaħx il-fliexken, it-taħlita tibqa’ tajba għal diversi xhur, imma ladarba tiftaħhom, uża t-taħlita fi żmien ġimagħtejn.
